The primary missions of the Broken Arrow Animal Shelter is to protect all animals from cruelty and neglect, to educate owners about the proper care of animals and to provide shelter and care for animals who have been abandoned or are in need.

The Broken Arrow Animal Shelter operates with limited funds and like other animal shelters depends largely on support from the community. The Broken Arrow Animal Shelter runs volunteer programs for people who love animals and have some time to devote to helping care for the animals housed within the shelter.

The Broken Arrow Animal Shelter is quite extensive and comprises twenty dog runs, eight quarantine pens for diseased or foreign animals, seven puppy pens, and twenty five cat pens. They also loan out to the community twenty-two cat traps, nine skunk traps, and five dog traps. They are also equipped with stalls to house larger animals such as horses and cows.

Stray animals that are brought into the Broken Arrow Animal Shelter are kept at the shelter for a minimum stay prior to being eligible for adoption. The adoption "fee" payable is a $50 deposit which covers the cost of sterilization of the animal. This deposit is refunded to the owner though if the sterilization is conducted at the shelter or if proof of sterilization is provided from another vet. If the Broken Arrow Animal Shelter is already aware that the animal has been sterilized, then they do not charge the owner the adoption fee.
